Mechanical and Electrical Services Design

Our objective is to create mechanical and electrical services design that will provide a comfortable environment, energy efficient use and is easy to maintain and operate for the end user. With our depth of experience in high end Retail, Restaurants, Offices and large domestic Dwellings, we realise the need for attention to detail of finishes and the need to provide cost effective design both in use and capital cost.

Public Health

We offer full above and below ground public health engineering services designs which include foul drainage and rainwater disposal.

Tender Documentation

Our comprehensive package of tender documentation allows competitive prices to be sought in the open market. Our package will include full design drawings for all services disciplines together with a technical specification and full equipment scheduling.

Building Regulation Analysis

As part of our mechanical and electrical services design process we can provide advice and solutions that will ensure all legal requirements (Building Regulations) will be met or exceeded. This includes requirements on; thermal comfort (overheating, glare, daylighting, fresh air etc.), building fabric (u-values, g-values, air tightness etc.) and carbon dioxide emissions (Part L – Conservation of Fuel and Power, Energy Performance Certificates, future climate analysis etc.). We have a specialist team that use dynamic simulation modelling techniques to perform complex energy assessments to ensure improved accuracy aiding design optimisation.

Construction Stage Monitoring and Quality Control

Following on from our design tender package, we offer a monitoring role whilst the project is in the construction phase on site. This allows us to look after the clients’ interests ensuring that the quality of the installation is maintained.

Cost Control

As part of the design team, we input information at the start of the project with the initial cost plan, assisting the Quantity Surveyor with the services sections and then as the project progresses reviewing the tender pricing. During construction stage we are also able to provide assistance in reviewing contractor valuations.


Low carbon and renewable technologies have been an integral part of our design for several years. This includes solar thermal, photovoltaic, ground and air source heat pumps, biomass heating, combined heat and power installations. Our design process looks at options on a like for like basis allowing clients to make informed decisions on life cycle costs, energy usage, CO₂ emissions and operation and maintenance issues.

Energy and the Environment

We aim to provide building’s that put the user experience at the core of the design whilst at the same time optimising passive (building form and fabric) and active (building services and renewable technologies) energy savings. With the use of dynamic simulation modelling tools we are able to assist architects and designers to tailor their designs to achieve maximum energy savings whilst maintaining stimulating spaces. This can be achieved through; façade optimisation, building orientation, massing, glazing ratios, active and passive shading, natural ventilation, night-time cooling and building fabric (thermal properties – u-values and g-values). Combined with modern mechanical and electrical services we are able to offer substantial energy and carbon dioxide reductions which follow existing and future Building Regulations.

We also offer advice on voluntary Environmental schemes such as BREEAM or LEED.

When required we can produce reports and assessments that are often required for planning and include; Low and Zero Carbon Technology Studies, Daylighting Assessments and Energy Assessment (including Part L calculations).

Condition Surveys and Dilapidations

We provide surveys for existing services installations across all sectors and building types. Our reports detail risks and potential life span of the existing services. Assessments of the repairing liabilities and associated maintenance requirements allowing remedial works and on-going Planned Preventative Maintenance costs to be determined, allowing a valued and quantifiable decision to be made as part of the survey report.

Value Engineering

Significant cost savings, along with an increased level of quality, can be accomplished on most projects through continuous value engineering reviews.

As part of the overall design team we are able to provide cost saving and value engineering solutions on all elements of the building services design.

Feasibility Studies

Our studies allow Clients to make informed decisions about the projected success of a project from a technical, economic, legal and environmental perspective over the life cycle of a building.

Expert Witness Services

We work in resolving engineering problems and disputes in new and existing buildings.

We have a combination of expertise in engineering and expert witness representation which allows us to assist clients in resolving disputes.

Project Management

Where building services projects are undertaken as a standalone installation, we can provide a project management role to oversee contract.

Infrastructure Services Planning

We have a varied experience of working with new and existing construction sites, understanding the need for close co-ordination between new services, structure and existing infrastructure.

Where connection is required to the regulated utilities, management of risk is required in design with changes in Utility supply provisions. We are able to assist in the application of all new incoming services provisions.
